Hello, Kia Ora, Hola, Namaste, Malo e lelei, Fakalofa lahi atu, Talofa, and Welcome to Matai 8.

Matai 8 is a Year1/2 class taught by Mrs Johnson. We start the school day at 8.55am. We expect that all children will be at school well before the bell rings, organising their things for the day (book bag, lunchbox, putting up name), meeting their friends, and catching up with their teacher.

In Matai 8, we start the day with roll and Oral Language. Then we do our Reading, then a short snack break/exercise time followed by Writing. After morning tea, we do our Handwriting and Maths. After lunch, we do Topic Studies or Physical Education or Art depending on the day. We visit our school Library on Tuesday.

Children take home a reader home each night, except Friday when they take their poem book home. They also have an alphabet card and/or a word bag of basic sight words. It is very important that parents read with their child each night and go over the alphabet letters or words.

Feel free to come into Matai 8 and see me if you have any questions or you can email me on rachelj@newlynn.school.nz
