Rooms 7 and 9 are the New Entrant classrooms at New Lynn School.

We have a visiting morning every Friday for children who have enrolled and are preparing to start school.

We start the school day at 8.55am. We expect that all children will be at school well before the bell rings, organising their things for the day, meeting their friends, and catching up with their teacher.

In Room 7, we start the day with oral language and alphabet/word activities, followed by reading and writing. After play, we have a story and then maths, followed by handwriting, music or an Assembly, depending on the day. After lunch, we do Unit study which includes studies about science, social studies, health and technology topics. We also have two physical education sessions, and Art on Thursday afternoon.

We visit the Library on Thursday mornings, and we use the computer suite at this time.

Homework: Children take a reader home each night, except Friday when they take their Poem book home. They also have an Alphabet card or a Word bag. It really helps when parents read with their child each night and go over the words or alphabet letters too. Use the basic word lists (above right) to help your child learn more of the high frequency words they will need in their reading.

Ms Linda is Room 7's teacher. Please feel free to see me at any time about your child's progress.
