Chinese Culture Day
A group of 14 students from the middle syndicate attended this year’s Chinese Culture Day with the support of Mrs Mana’o and Francis Nicholls. Despite the early start (the bus left school at 7am) the students were very excited and keen to get to the venue at ACG Strathallan School in Karaka. They got to participate in a wide range of Chinese activities including a delicious lunch. The event was extremely well organised and had many patient teachers and volunteers eager to share their culture with us. Our students were excellent representatives of New Lynn School and had 'a go' with all activities as well as being congratulated on their Mandarin skills. In the show case at the end of the event the following students were selected out of the 220 attendees as being outstanding and got to share their new skills with the group and parents:
Bamboo Dance – Dylan Higgins and Isaak Eteuati
Calligraphy – Eden Nicholls
Diabolo – Rosalyn Fononga, Kahurangi Kay and Gabriel Viejo
Awards for completing all activities – Isaak Eteuati, Shazyliah Ewington
Completing Chinese Knots challenge – Celina Rangi-Bartlett
The students were then returned to New Lynn by luxury coach at 6.20pm and were still buzzing despite a very long day.
