Choir, Kapa Haka & Dance Troupe at New Lynn School

Kapa Haka: Annual Showcase

Our Kapa Haka group performed at our annual Showcase called Lao Lao of Dragon Mountain. Here are some photos and a video clip (scroll down to after the drumming extravaganza) of their talented performance.

Choir: Bays Schools' Music Festival

New Lynn School students and teachers have enjoyed another Bays Schools’ Music Festival this year. They performed a dance and ukulele item to Hey Soul Sister as well as joining the massed choir items to sing many popular songs. The Bays Schools’ Music Festival is always a highlight for our school choir. Ms Linda, Mrs Zhang and Ms Hewgill spent many hours training us for the performance – thank you.

Dance: Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra Drumming Extravaganza

Our APO dance troupe, who are training for the ‘Sacre’ Auckland Dance Project were privileged to have members from the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra visit our school. This was a drumming workshop that gave our students opportunities to play rhythms using drums. The music being used for the Sacre project is The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. The rhythms that the students created supported and exposed our students to this music.

Choir and Kapa Haka

The school Choir trains with Ms Linda and the Kapa Haka group trains with Mrs Vaega. The Choir is performed at the Bay Schools' Music Festival in 2010.
