Mentoring Programmes

Supporting students in their learning is provided in our mentoring programmes. We provide four such programmes involving students with one-to-one assistance or in a small group (moderate needs group). The four programmes are as follows:

Reading Recovery:  After one year at school, all students are tested against reading and writing criteria. Where they are identified as needing further individual support in their learning students are referred to our Reading Recovery programme. After a maximum of 100x 1/2hr individual lessons, a student is either discontinued from the programme or further supported by our Tutor Reading Programme. While at the same time being supported back in their explicit classroom reading and writing programmes.

Volunteer Tutor Reading:
Seven trained volunteers support 12x students with their reading on an individual basis for a 15minute session once or twice a week. We are grateful for the time volunteered to carry out such an effective and on-going reading programme in our school.

Mathematics Tutoring
(Cossdbrics programme)
:
Our maths tutor volunteers once a week to individually mentor 12x Year 5 and 6 students who are practising numeracy strategies and knowledge in mathematics. The programme helps to build a greater awareness of large numbers and how to manage them when solving mathematical problems.

Moderate needs groups:  Students from Year 3-6 classes are grouped according to their language ability and provided with small group tuition that caters to their learning needs.

ESOL learning groups:  Several small groups across different levels of the school are organised on a daily basis to assist students in learning the English language with fluency and understanding.  Our Taiwanese tutor plans specific programmes for our identified students to engage in.
